ST. GEORGE – The City of St. George has begun the planning process for an all-abilities park to be built to suit the needs of people with disabilities.
“We want to work as a community to build a park and playground that is universally inclusive and accessible,” Leisure Services Director Kent Perkins said. “This facility will be built in Tonaquint Park and will provide persons with disabilities, their families, friends, and peers a place to play, socialize and learn together.”
The kickoff for this exciting project will be Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Entrada Room at the Dixie Center St. George. The public is invited to attend and give input on the design and theme for the facility.
Shane’s Inspiration, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities, will help facilitate this input session.
Children are welcome to attend to draw a picture of their vision of this new facility.
“We want to create a magical place where play happens without barriers or bias,” Perkins said, “a place where acceptance and awareness are fostered and the focus is on abilities, not disabilities.”

All the parents in st george seem to scream “my kids need this! my kids need that! government should give my kids everything i think they need!” these are special needs parents who i think we should ignore. now those kids with disabilities deserve assistance.

I hope there is at least one parent of a special needs child on this committee.. otherwise I wouldn’t count on the city not screwing it up. If you’re a parent who wants to see this succeed… get on the committee now.
