ST. GEORGE – The Washington County Water Conservancy District has partnered with the City of St. George to offer several events in celebration of National Water Week Monday through Saturday. All events are free and open to the public.

“Events will focus on all things water – where it comes from, how it’s treated, what can be done to conserve it and more,” said Julie Breckenridge, conservation manager for Washington County Water Conservancy District. “We hope many will participate in the planned events and learn more about this essential resource.”

Events are scheduled as follows:

Monday, May 5

• Fifth Annual Garden Fair
• 4-7 p.m.
• The Garden in Tonaquint Park, 1851 S. Dixie Dr., St. George
• This event will feature interactive displays, educational booths, prizes, music, refreshments and more.

• Water Walk
• 7-8 p.m.
• The Garden in Tonaquint Park, 1851 S. Dixie Dr., St. George
• Join St. George Mayor Jon Pike for a two-mile walk symbolic of the distance those in water-stressed communities travel daily for water.

Tuesday, May 6

• Quail Creek Water Treatment Plant tours
• 2-5 p.m.
• 270 N. 5300 West, Hurricane
• Discover where local water comes from and how it’s treated in order for residents to have safe drinking water.

Wednesday, May 7

• City of St. George Waste Water Treatment Plant tours
• 2-5 p.m.
• 3780 S. 1500 West, St. George
• Find out what happens to water after it goes down the drain.

Thursday, May 8

• Reading of bestselling book “The Water Hole”
• 11 a.m.
• Washington County Library, St. George Branch, 88 W. 100 South, St. George
• Breckenridge said thousands have participated in Water Week events since the program’s local inception in 2009. “We’re thrilled with the success we’ve had, but we need to do more,” she said. “We want every resident in Washington County to better understand the essential role water plays in our daily lives and the consistent efforts undertaken to provide a safe, reliable water supply.”
