SOUTHWESTERN UTAH– If you’re fishing for something fun to do this upcoming weekend, grab a pole and take part in the Division of Wildlife’s annual Free Fishing Day. You won’t need a fishing license to wet your line and fish during this Free Fishing Day event held across Utah on June 7. You also have an opportunity to improve the fishing in Utah by taking an online survey.
Each event, cosponsored by Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes will be offered and some fishing equipment will be available to check out and use at the pond and reservoirs. DWR personnel and volunteers will also be on hand to help youngsters fish and to help them keep their hooks baited.
Early June is one of the best times to fish in Utah, according to the Division of Wildlife Resources. Before Free Fishing Day, the DWR will place extra fish in lakes and reservoirs across Utah.

Biologists want to know: What do you think about fishing in Utah?
If you like to fish in Utah, you have a golden opportunity right now to do two things: let fisheries biologists know your thoughts about fishing regulation changes the biologists are considering for 2015, and share your thoughts about fishing in Utah.
You can learn more about the changes the biologists are considering and let them know your thoughts about their ideas by taking a brief survey at the Division of Wildlife Resources’ website.
The survey is available online and consists of seven questions. At the end of the survey, you’ll find a text box to share anything about fishing in Utah, specific recommendations, complaints, concerns or general ideas about how to make fishing better in the state.
“DWR biologists often hear from organized fishing groups,” Drew Cushing, warm water sport fisheries biologist for the DWR said, “but they rarely hear from individual anglers. We want to hear from individual anglers too.”
Even though 2015 is still months away, Cushing said the biologists need time before September to consider individual ideas and ask that ideas are submitted no later than June 15.
After evaluating your submitted ideas, the biologists will present their final recommendations at Regional Advisory Council meetings in September. The Utah Wildlife Board will make the final decision about Utah’s 2015 fishing rules at a meeting on Oct. 2.
