ST. GEORGE — A woman has died from injuries suffered when she was hit by the side of a truck while out running with a friend along the shoulder of Red Hills Parkway Friday.
Terri Lusk was taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George after the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Friday. She was then taken into surgery, St. George Police Capt. Michael Giles said, in an effort to save her life.
Lusk was a teacher at Dixie Middle School where she headed up the science department. Dixie Middle School Assistant Principal Sheri Fisher wrote to the school’s staff early Friday afternoon to inform them of the tragic situation that had occurred.
“She is in critical condition in ICU and her family is with her,” Fisher said. “They requested I wait until this evening to contact them and the hospital for an update. Our hearts and prayers go out to her and her family.”
Early Saturday, Fisher confirmed that Lusk had passed away Friday night due to her injuries.
“I am sorry to inform you of Terri’s passing last night,” Fisher wrote. “Her husband said the doctors did all that they could do. She will be greatly missed!”
Lusk was a fantastic colleague, touched so many lives and taught hundreds of kids, said Carrie Heaton, a teacher’s aide at Dixie Middle School.
“She was a lot of everything a teacher should be,” Heaton said. “She was a nearly rabid advocate for student success. I will miss her each day I go to work. No one made fun of my snake phobia quite like Terri.”
The St. George Marathon Facebook posted a message of condolence for the Lusk family Saturday:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lusk family at this time of loss and heartache. Our concerns are for each of our runners during training season. Please be safe and cautious.

This is extremely sad. My heart goes out to her family.
Very sad.
That is a horrible stretch of road. The city should be improving that area and making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
My son loved her as a teacher. He was blessed to have had the experience of having had such a wonderful teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends, I am sure she will be greatly missed.
I loved her as a teacher. She was a vibrant outgoing woman! She loved what she taught, and loved her students. She is already greatly missed by many. RIP Mrs. Lusk
I’ve been driving to work in the early morning hours up I-18 and am surprised there are not more of these types of accidents. I’m sure it makes it a lot less painful to run with a group of people, but do you have to run four or five wide and so close to the solid white line? Many of them you do not see until you’re right on top of them, because of their choice of clothing, safety gear, or lack of. Runners think about what you would be able to see if you were driving up the road, and someone’s coming toward you with their high beams on or some blows a tire, the further you are off the road the better! I pray for the life and family of the person that hit this early morning jogger, as well. Please be SAFE! for all that might be involved.
My heart felt love and support to the Lusk family. Terri will be greatly missed in the neighborhood.
