IVINS – Set against the backdrop of the iconic red cliffs in Ivins, the 15th annual Art in Kayenta Festival kicks off Friday and promises a weekend full of art, entertainment, food, drink, auctions and fun.
In order for you to enjoy the festival, St. George News has put together the following guide to help you get the most out of this artistic and scenic event.
Art
More than 60 artists and artisans from all over the country have come to showcase their craftsmanship with mediums as varied as wood, paint, ceramics, jewelry, textiles and photography.
Wood craftsman, Dennis Bertucci from Boulder, Utah has been restoring Arts and Crafts style furniture for 25 years and also designs and builds his own furniture inspired by pioneers in the Arts and Crafts movement namely Gustav Stickley, Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles Rennie Mackintosh and, he said, Mother Nature.
This is Bertucci’s first time at the Art in Kayenta Festival but, he said, he will likely be back.
In addition to stationary art displays there will also be live demonstrations and a quick draw art competition on Sat. at 2 p.m. that will see professional artists given a 90 minute window to create an original work of art in front of a live audience.
There will also be live and silent art auctions taking place during the festival.
Food and Drinks
Hungry patrons will not have to look far to please their palate and tempt their tastebuds as food vendors selling wood fired pizza, Hawaiian and Greek fare, crepes, popcorn, tasty treats and much more are available for purchase and ample seating is provided to rest your feet and take in the atmosphere.
Drinks are available from most of the vendor stands or there is a dedicated coffee house that serves coffee, teas and espressos along with muffins and other baked goods.
In the mood for something stronger? The Art in Kayenta Festival Beer and Wine Garden has a selection of locally brewed beers and this year they are also offering wine. All the proceeds from the alcohol purchases will go to the Kayenta Arts Foundation as it raises money to build a performance and visual arts space, Bobby Edwards, a foundation board member, said.
“We have a live stage right here and you pair that with beer and it just makes for a perfect afternoon and weekend activity to come out and enjoy the crisp autumn air and the beautiful art and the beautiful surroundings,” Edwards said, “and the best part about it is all the proceeds benefit the Kayenta Art Foundation nonprofit.”
Entertainment
The festival will be filled with music as continuous entertainment will grace two stages located in the venue. Music begins at the Coffee House stage at 10 a.m. each morning and on the main stage at noon each day.
Music presented will range in styles from contemporary, folk, rock, country, Native American and more.

Parking and Riding
Parking is available at the venue and on surrounding streets and shuttles will be available for patrons who are in need of assistance.
This year, Art in Kayenta has teamed up with the Southern Utah Bike Alliance to provide cyclists who ride to the event a free and secure way to park their bike. A bike valet is available at the entrance to the venue where patrons will receive a tag and their bike will be securely parked and watched over by volunteers so they can freely walk the festival and enjoy their stay.
“I love this festival,” artist Mary Manning said, “this is my spiritual home.”
Art in Kayenta is a 3-day event starting Friday and continuing through Sunday.

- When: Friday-Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Cost: Free to enter, food, beverage and art purchases vary by vendor
- Parking: There is designated parking at the venue as well as along one side of the surrounding streets. Shuttles are available to take patrons to the event. There is a free bike valet for cyclists who ride to the event.
