SAND HOLLOW STATE PARK — A 5-year-old girl involved in an off-highway vehicle rollover at Sand Hollow State Park Friday afternoon has been released to her family and is in stable condition. (See ed. note)
Just before 3:30 p.m., the girl was riding with family members in an OHV at Sand Hollow State Park when the off-road vehicle rolled at least once, Sand Hollow Complex Park Manager Laura Melling said. Melling said the cause of the rollover is still under investigation, and factors are still being determined.
An inexperienced driver operating the OHV is being considered as a possible contributing factor, but Melling said that is uncertain at this point.
All occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts and helmets at the time of the accident, she said.
The 5-year-old girl was shaken up after the incident, and responders from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue were called in to provide medical attention, but the child was ultimately released with no injuries. No other injuries were reported in connection with the rollover.
“There is no reason to assume that there was any negligence in the incident,” Melling said.
State park rangers and Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue attended to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
Ed. note: Vehicle clarification made.
