ST. GEORGE — Bring your cowboy hat and boots for family fit day Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Staheli Family Farm, benefiting a young cowboy at heart, Stetson Larsen, almost 2 years old, battling brain cancer.
Exercise the fun way with an outdoor obstacle course with 16 different obstacles, including hay bales, balance beams, army crawl, tubes to crawl through and gunny sacks.
“Seeing them jump, run, crawl, giggle and smile from ear to ear makes my heart so happy!” Lacy Larsen, event founder, nutritionist and personal trainer, said. “Kids truly make the world go round, and I love making little kids feel like a million bucks and that they can do anything they want to because they can!”
Every child that completes the obstacle course receives a number one winner medal.
“I have moms that call, text and email me saying that their kids won’t take their medals off … they sleep with them and even take a bath with them!” Lacy Larsen said. “I want to do all I can to teach them how to live a healthy happy life, because when you do that you can live life to the fullest!”
The event also includes:
- parachute races
- tug of war
- face painting
- snow cones
- healthy treats including apples, bananas and yogurt parfaits
- live entertainment
- raffle
- live and silent auction
The event is $5 per child or adult, or $20 per family. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the farm for $7 per child or adult, or $30 per family.
“Kids don’t get enough physical activity these days with all the electronic devices that are available to them,” Lacy Larsen said. “I want kids to put down their cell phones, iPads and computers and get off Facebook, Instagram and video games and get their little bodies moving! Exercise is the best medicine, and I truly believe that food can be the slowest form of poison or the best form of medicine!”
Proceeds go to the Stetson Larsen and his family.
Lacy Larsen created the event for her nephew after a tumor was found, the size of a tangerine, on his brain in 2014, when Stetson Larsen was eight months old.
Stetson Larsen’s family said they are grateful for the outpouring of love and community support.
“Some kids wish to be a cowboy, to be a princess, to be a chef or a farmer, other kids wish for a cure so they can grow up,” Lacy Larsen said. “Stetson’s parents, Dustin and Rachelle Larsen, couldn’t be more in love with their one and only little boy and are so very grateful he is still here with them.”
