WASHINGTON CITY – A St. George woman was transported to the hospital early Thursday morning and one man was arrested on felony drug possession charges following what authorities referred to as a “pretty violent crash” on northbound Interstate 15 near Washington City Exit 10.
The male driver and a male passenger of a Mazda pickup truck — both originally from California — were pulling a Nissan Sentra on a car dolly along I-15 as they headed to Ogden where they had recently relocated, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jake Hicks said.
As the Mazda truck neared I-15 milepost 10 at around 6:50 a.m., Hicks said, the dolly started to fishtail and whip, causing the Nissan Sentra to break free from the dolly.
“As it broke free from the dolly,” Hicks said, “it slid perpendicular on the freeway.”
Behind the Mazda truck, a St. George woman in her early-20s was driving a Honda Civic as the Nissan Sentra slid sideways onto the freeway directly in front of her.
“So she basically T-boned that unoccupied Nissan Sentra head-on — just right into the side of it — into the driver’s side,” Hicks said. “It’s at about freeway speed, so probably about 70 mph, and it propelled that Nissan forward and actually sent it into a roll.”
The Nissan Sentra rolled until it came to rest in the median, Hicks said, and the Honda Civic came to a stop in the roadway.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, Hicks said.
Although Hicks said it’s not known for certain whether the woman was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, he said he believes she was because she wasn’t ejected during what he referred to as a “pretty violent crash.”
“She absolutely would have been ejected hitting a car at 70 mph like that,” he said. “She would have went right through the windshield. … I can’t imagine her surviving that crash without it.”
No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The driver of the Mazda truck was issued a citation for failure to secure a load, Hicks said, and the passenger of the Mazda truck, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Cardoza, was arrested on felony drug possession charges.
“There was quite a bit of drugs in that car,” Hicks said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

She should have gone 80 MPH
Why ?
It’s a safe speed. The other accident, a head on collision at 80 MPH, they had no injuries….so…….it seems like safe speed. 🙂
Why ?
Because I said so
Why ?
were the perps legal?
I sure hope the dolly wasn’t damaged
