SALT LAKE CITY — Intermountain Healthcare has been named on the Hospitals & Health Networks 2016 HealthCare’s Most Wired list.
Intermountain has been named among the nation’s most technologically savvy hospital systems in 17 of the 18 years the survey has been conducted.
“Being one of HealthCare’s Most Wired is more than just complying with the rules of a survey,” Intermountain’s Marc Probst, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, said. “It’s about fostering relationships between people and technology, processes and people, and supporting tools that make those relationships thrive. We do that at Intermountain every day. And we do it really well.”
The list is based on a collaborative study conducted by H&HN, the American Health Association (AHA), and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
The Most Wired survey of hospitals and health systems nationwide was based on three categories: cybersecurity, new ways of delivering care and engaging with the patient, and increased use of predictive analytics for population health.
Intermountain’s TeleHealth program and Connect Care portal are prime examples of its efforts to engage patients in their health through technology.
“Hospitals are breaking out of their traditional four walls and providing care where and when patients need it,” said Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the AHA. “These Most Wired hospitals exemplify this transformation by harnessing technology, engaging patients and offering services remotely. And, removing policy and other barriers to telehealth will allow even faster adoption of these amazing technologies.”

I’ve spent a fair amount of time at DRMC in the last few months visiting people and the cell service and wifi are horrible there. Both AT&T and Verizon were almost unusable almost anywhere in the building (though ICU was better then the general wing, and most of the ER is unusable). Their wifi would kick you off after just a few minutes of inactivity, so you had to re-login on almost every page view. It would be a great service to patients and visitors if they improved their wifi and added some cell phone repeaters on the interior of the building.
That being said, the care our friends and family received was excellent and we’re grateful for the progress that has been made, and look forward to the completion of the new expansion.
I suppose if the wifi worked well they would have to increase patient cost 😉
