ST. GEORGE — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. The outlook calls for increasing moisture bringing thunderstorms, high winds and possibly snow to the area.
Southwest Utah, including Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, is included in the alert. Residents are encouraged to take note of weather conditions before making plans that include outdoor activities.
Affected area
Cache Valley, northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake and Tooele valleys, southern Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake Desert and mountains, Wasatch Mountain valleys, Wasatch Mountains near Interstate-80 North, Wasatch Mountains south of I-80, western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau-Book Cliffs, Western Uinta Basin-Castle Country, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete-Sevier valleys, and west-central Utah.
Also affected will be southwest Utah, Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, south-central Utah, Glen Canyon Recreation Area-Lake Powell, central mountains, southern mountains and southwest Wyoming.
Tuesday through Wednesday
An upper-level disturbance crossing the desert southwest will bring the potential for showers and thunderstorms across primarily southern and eastern Utah.
Thursday – Friday
A second, more potent system will bring widespread rain to the region. Windy conditions are also expected.
With the significantly cooler air associated with this system, some accumulation of snow in the mountains is possible.
