ST. GEORGE — Police have arrested a 33-year-old man who has allegedly been distributing drugs in Southern Utah. The man is facing multiple felony charges in Washington and Kane counties.
The Washington County Drug Task Force conducted an undercover narcotics distribution investigation into Jacob Deloss “JD” Hammon, of Hildale, according to a probable cause statement filed by the task force in support of the arrest.
Over the last several months, the task force conducted a controlled buy of methamphetamine in Washington County, the report states, using a confidential informant who purchased meth from Hammon.
The task force and Drug Enforcement Administration served a search warrant Saturday on Hammon’s residence on East Field Avenue, according to the statement. Authorities allegedly located methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Hammon’s bedroom.
Hammon was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
The Washington County Attorney’s Office filed an information in 5th District Court accusing Hammon of two second-degree felony counts of drug distribution, two class A misdemeanor counts of drug possession and a class B misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia possession.
On Monday, the Kane County Attorney’s Office filed an affidavit and application for warrant of arrest in 6th District Court, requesting Judge Marvin Bagley issue a felony warrant for Hammon’s arrest on drug-related charges.
According to the affidavit, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office had also been conducting an undercover investigation into Hammon through the use of a confidential informant, whom Hammon had allegedly distributed methamphetamine and marijuana to earlier this year.
An information was filed in the case Sept. 14 charging Hammon with first-degree felony drug distribution and second-degree felony distribution of or arranging to distribute a controlled substance.
“The current location of the defendant is unknown,” the county attorney wrote Monday in his request for an arrest warrant. Meanwhile, Hammon was behind bars in Washington County.
A $10,000 warrant for Hammon’s arrest was subsequently approved and signed Monday by Bagley.
Hammon is scheduled to appear before 5th District Judge Eric A. Ludlow Monday on the charges filed by Washington County.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
