ST. GEORGE — A man who died in a motorcycle crash in Escalante over the weekend has been identified by police.

Ryan Carter, 41, of Escalante, died of injuries sustained in the single-motorcycle crash Saturday, which happened at approximately 6:34 p.m. Saturday in the area of 2485 S. Center Street.

“Witnesses stated that the man just completed a turn and appeared to be increasing speed. For an unknown reason, he lost control and laid the motorcycle down,” Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.

Carter was not wearing a helmet when he crashed his bike, a black 2012 Harley Davidson, Royce said.

He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where a medical helicopter was scheduled to pick him up for treatment at another facility.

He succumbed to his injuries prior to the medical helicopter arriving,” Royce said.

Police are still investigating the crash.

“At this time, impairment is not suspected to be a factor,” Royce said, “and neither is excessive speed.”

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
