SANTAQUIN, Utah — A 16-year-old girl is dead after falling during a hike in a canyon in central Utah.
A statement posted to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office website said Kaylee Marvin, of Santaquin, fell 100 feet Monday morning about 4 miles into Santaquin Canyon.
“She was hiking with a friend near the top of a steep climb when she lost her footing while trying to cross a log,” according to the statement. “She then fell approximately 100 feet straight down.”
The friend administered CPR until emergency crews responded to the scene after the girl’s father reported the fall. Crews reached the teen and performed CPR, but were unable to revive her.
After about 40 minutes she was pronounced dead.
“Detectives continue to investigate this case but at this point there is nothing suspicious and this death appears to be a tragic accident,” the statement reads.
