ST. GEORGE — We’re back to highlighting exceptional student-athletes throughout Southern Utah with all new episodes of “Performance Player of the Month,” brought to you by Ken Garff St. George Ford.

Learn more about “Performance Player of the Month” Nash Schroeder in the media player at the top of this report.

Schroeder is a junior at Pine View. You’ll usually find him on the mound, where his top fastball this season was clocked at 83 miles per hour.

With state playoffs just around the corner, Pine View’s baseball coach Glen MacLellan, affectionately known as “Coach Mac,” is keeping his players on their toes. He’s always saying, “No walking on the field!”, Schroeder said, and instilling his motto of “YGB – You Gotta Believe.”

Schroeder said he isn’t particularly superstitious, but he always wears at least one of his many bracelets on his left wrist during a game. He also listens to music before taking the field to get into the right headspace.

What’s on his playlist? About 80% rap and hip-hop and 20% country, he said, naming Tyler, the Creator and Morgan Wallen among his favorite artists.

And who’s an athlete he looks up to?

“Right now, I’m loving Shohei Otani,” he said. “How he plays both the field and hits.”

Schroeder’s talents extend beyond baseball, however. He also plays hoops for the Panthers and made his varsity debut in three sports as a freshman. He recently stopped playing football after suffering injuries to his throwing arm.

His favorite moment from his junior year so far was a home basketball game against Crimson Cliffs High School. With less than 90 seconds on the clock, he sunk a step back three-pointer that helped the Panthers secure the victory.

“Just winning that game was a very cool memory,” he said. “In the locker room, it was a really cool atmosphere after.”
