ST. GEORGE — We’re back to highlighting exceptional student-athletes throughout Southern Utah with all new episodes of “Performance Player of the Month,” brought to you by Ken Garff St. George Ford.
This month’s episode features Snow Canyon High School basketball star Olivia Hamlin. Devin Dixon with The Fan Sports Network and St. George News Sports joined her on her home court to catch up.

Hamlin, a guard for the Warriors, started on the varsity roster as a freshman. Most of her stats have steadily increased year after year, which she attributes to her training regimen that devotes equal time to improving speed, agility, strength, conditioning and skills. She also plays dozens of club games during the offseason.
“It’s easier now because I have more experience,” she said.
She’s only a junior, but Hamlin is already generating considerable interest from various college coaches. She’s weighing her options and hopes to commit by next fall.
She also has plenty of fans at home, including her mom, who played college basketball. Her favorite athlete? The GOAT.
“He’s just so inspirational,” she said. “Michael Jordan literally gave it his all.”
Hamlin is dedicated to her sport and her team, too. One of the most memorable moments of her high school career came during last year’s state championship. Snow Canyon was set to face Sky View High School in the semifinals, and on game day, she suffered an allergic reaction that sent her to the hospital. After getting an IV to help her facial swelling go down, she was able to play through it.
Before games, she usually takes a quick nap to get her mind in the right space, then heads to the gym with her headphones on; SZA is on repeat in her playlist right now. When she’s not on the court, Hamlin likes to hang out with her friends and enjoy nature.
