“Maybe the hardest thing about coaching track is to get everyone to see the big picture and buy into the team aspect,” Pine View head coach Dave Holt told St. George News afterward. “So being able to come together and win an invitational, especially at this point in the season, really helps the kids start to grasp that team-side of the sport.”

“Like most teams we are dealing with a few injuries and we’re missing a few kids to other activities,” Holt added. “But it was great to see the team come together.”

Among the highlights for the Panthers were four new school records set at the two-day meet, including Bridger Jaggi’s winning time of 9:10.72 in the boys 3200-meter run. Jaggi then doubled back and won the 800-meter race just 90 minutes later, Holt noted.

Setting a new Pine View school record in the girls 3200-meter run was senior Kate Jones, who posted a winning time of 11:07.18.

The Pine View girls also established new school records in both the 4×800 and 4×100 relays, Holt said. The Panthers’ time of 49.77 in the 4×100 earned them third place at the meet (within 0.22 of a second of winner Canyon View) but still broke a 26-year-old school mark, Holt said.

The Pine View girls finished with 102 team points, while runner up Canyon View had 94. Cedar placed third with 72 points.

On the boys’ side, Pine View scored 126 points, just two points ahead of runner-up Snow Canyon’s 124. Canyon View placed third with 64. See top 10 team scores listed at bottom of story.

Many high schools from around the state will next be heading up to the BYU Invitational in Provo the weekend of May 3-4.

“We’ll split our athletes between BYU and the Sentinel Invite at Mountain Ridge High School in Herriman,” Holt said.
